Poem o’ the day

One shouldn’t rush into yard work
on the first warm day of the year,
she thought to herself
while lying in the sun.
Yard word should be eased in to,
like last year’s skinny jeans.
It’s no good rushing,
she repeated through closed eyes,
when the birds are so happily reacquainting
and I’ve got this blanket to myself in the sun.
